De Duitse Bondsdagverkiezingen kunnen een keerpunt zijn voor het land en de EU als geheel. De economie staat onder druk, net zo als het lang bestaand beleid op gebied van migratie, veiligheid en democratie. De uitslag van deze verkiezingen zal de rol van Duitsland in Europa bepalen en de aanpak van mondiale uitdagingen beïnvloeden, waaronder de oorlog in Oekraïne en de economische toekomst van de EU. Twee dagen na de verkiezingen praten we met verschillende experts hierover, tijdens deze interactieve bijeenkomst in Maastricht.

To unpack these crucial developments, Studio Europa Maastricht, supported by Duitsland Instituut Amsterdam, invites you to “Nach der Wahl: Impact of the German elections on Europe”. This public program brings together experts, journalists, researchers, and local residents to analyse the election results and develop your own scenarios on how they might impact the future of Europe.

Together with Nele Ewers-Peters (Assistant Professor for European Security at Maastricht University), Lilian Tsourdi (Associate Professor and Jean Monnet Chair in EU Migration Law and Governance at Maastricht University), Nils Redeker (Deputy Director of the Jacques Delors Centre in Berlin & specialist on Germany’s role in EU) and Kemal Rijken (journalist, host of the ‘Elections in Germany’ podcast) we will discuss what the German elections would mean for Europe: it’s security, economy and democracy. Job Zomerplaag (programme editor at Studio Europa Maastricht) will moderate the debate.
