Op 18 juni 2021 organiseerde het DIA in het kader van zijn 25-jarig bestaan het Falling Walls Lab Amsterdam.
Vier studenten, net afgestudeerden en young professionals kregen tijdens deze Science Slam de kans hun innovatieve en baanbrekende idee of onderzoek in 3 minuten voor een professionele jury te pitchen. De centrale vraag was:
Waar gaan – in navolging van de val van de Berlijnse muur – in de nabije toekomst muren vallen en doorbraken plaatsvinden?
De kandidaten

Jury
De jury koos aan de hand van de criteria „Breakthrough factor”, “Relevance/impact” en “Structure/Performance” een winnaar. In de jury zaten: Joris van Doornick, CEO & co-founder van de dating app 'Breeze', Mariska van der Giessen, cross-border expert en docent internationaal ondernemerschap aan NHL Stenden, Katharina Hanika, PHD-graduate en onderwijskundig specialist aan de Universiteit Wageningen, Selma de Mink, wetenschappelijk directeur van het Max Planck Institut für Astrophysik, Moritz Schmid-Drechsler, hoofd pers en cultuur van de Duitse Ambassade in Den Haag

Joris van Heijningen reist op 8 november 2021 af naar Berlijn en neemt hier deel aan de finale tijdens de Falling Walls Conference.

The Germany Institute at the University of Amsterdam (DIA) celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. We would like to seize this opportunity by looking forward. Which trends in the areas of politics, culture and innovation and science can we expect? What chances and developments do we see for Germany, the most important power in the European Union? And what does this mean for us, in the Netherlands?
In line with this, the DIA organized the Falling Walls Lab Amsterdam on the 18th of June 2021. Four students, graduates and young professionals were offered the opportunity to present their innovative and ground-shaking idea or research in three minutes, at a Science Slam in front of a professional jury. The central question was:
Where will – in the footsteps of the fall of the Berlin Wall – in the near future walls fall and breakthroughs take place?

The jury
The jury, consisting out of five persons, chose on the basis of the criteria “Breakthrough factor”, “Relevance/Impact” and “Structure/Performance” a winner. The jury consisted of Joris van Doornick (Breeze. social), Mariska van der Giessen (NHL Stenden), Katharina Hanika (Universiteit Wageningen), Selma de Mink (Max Planck Institut für Astrophysik), Moritz Schmid-Drechsler (German Embassy in The Hague)
And the winner of the Falling Walls Science Slam Amsterdam is...

Van Heijningen will travel to Berlin on the 8th of November 2021 and will participate in the finale during the Falling Walls Conference.
